SPORTS NUTRITION
Nutritional goals for athletes are often very specific and require careful management.
- The food we eat impacts on our strength, training, performance and recovery.
- Meals eaten before and after exercise are the most important in sports nutrition.
- The proportions of protein and carbohydrates that you require vary depending on the intensity and type of sport.
- Whether it is providing a specific, individualized diet plan or receiving expert advice and guidance, our Dietitians and Nutritionists can help!
Nutritional goals for athletes are often very specific and require careful management and monitoring of dietary patterns and food intake to ensure that the food consumption and timing are appropriate. Many athletes also use dietary supplementation to help meet their increased nutritional needs and performance goals.
Meals eaten before and after exercise are the most important in sports nutrition but you should really be careful with everything that you put into your body. Carbohydrates are the main source of energy that powers your exercise regime and protein is required to aid muscle growth and repair. After exercising you need to replace the carbohydrates you have lost and you need to ensure proper muscle recovery by including protein in your post-training meal.
Consulting with a Dietitian or nutritionist to discuss your nutritional intake is extremely important because they offer you guidance, and a meal plan that works with the schedule, time restraints, and increased nutritional needs that you require. For example, it would be good to know if supplementation is necessary or if food consumption is enough to meet your requirements.

- Do you have concerns about your infant or child’s growth and weight gain/loss?
- During infancy and childhood, good nutrition is essential for growth and development.

Infancy is defined at the period from birth up to 1 year of age. During this time, it is extremely important for the nutritional intake to be sufficient. It has been shown with various scientific studies that depending on an infant/child’s growth and feeding patterns at a young age, it can influence their risk of various metabolic diseases such as obesity, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. At 6 months of age is when complementary feeding can begin. This may require extra advice and guidance from an expert to ensure your baby is fed appropriately and that there is decreased risk for developing allergies or even picky eating.
Parents should be aware that their child’s feeding style from a young age can closely influence their growth and cognitive development later in life. Specific nutrients (macro- and micro-) play specific roles in the body and having a balanced diet from early on in life may not only affect weight but also overall health, digestive health, cognitive function, energy levels, and many more.
Eating a variety of foods is the best way to ensure an adequate intake of nutrients for children. Each infant or child is different and some may experience feeding difficulties, require more nutrient-dense foods or guidance related to specific disease conditions. Our Dietitians are experts in assisting parents with these situations.
